D5 Converter - Revit | Live Sync Models Materials Lights & Cameras | Linked models

In today's competitive 3D visualization market, an increasing number of software have come into sight. Among them is Autodesk Revit, one of the major design tools widely used for the creation of 3D digital BIM models. It helps architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) teams create high-quality buildings and infrastructure.

While there are several real-time renderers for Revit users to choose from, few can be satisfactory: Some produce relatively inferior output, and others lack developed technologies, failing to satisfy professionals with regard to output quality, user experience, and the amount of time, efforts one puts into each project.

Such a situation gave birth to D5 Render, a revolution in the business of real-time rendering. It produces photo-realistic output within a shockingly short time, and works seamlessly with most modeling software including Revit.

In this article, I'll show you how to use D5 Render for Revit and how easy, yet powerful it is when you integrate D5 Render into your Revit/BIM workflow.

3D Rendering with D5 Render for Revit

Download D5 Render and D5 Converter-Revit For Free

1. Install D5 Render

D5 Render is an independent render engine, not a plugin or add-on, but works perfectly with most modeling software including Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, 3ds Max, ArchiCAD and Blender.

Go to D5 official website d5render.com > Download, and click Free Download Download | D5 Render to start downloading the programme.

The downloading and installation process will be completely free, quick, safe and easy.

2. Install D5 Converter - Revit

Scroll down to "D5 Converters".

Find Revit and download the plugin, install, and get ready to sync with D5.

D5 Converter - Revit User Guide

  • Live Sync Models, Materials, Lights and Cameras

The current D5 Converter works on Revit from version 2018.3 to 2022, and Revit 2023 will be supported this month.

After installation, the plugin will appear in the form of a toolbar on the top of your Revit window, allowing you to start modeling in Revit while connected to D5 so that you can see any changes to the models in realtime.

Click on 'Start D5’ and it will automatically open a project in D5 based on the model and material data in Revit. To associate the model with other D5 scene files, you can choose the Select files option and select a file manually.

After changing the models, materials, lights or even links in Revit, simply click on Sync buttons and those changes will be transited to D5 immediately.

Sync Lights in D5 Converter - Revit now supports all types of lights in Revit, no matter what light element (point, line, rectangle, or circle), light distribution (spherical, hemispherical, spot, or photometric web) you have!

What's more, the photometric characteristics and light groups' hierarchies can also be synchronized into D5 automatically, which saves you extra time adjusting the light settings when rendering.

Last but not least, Sync Camera is supported. With a simple click on the button, all Revit cameras will be transferred as D5 scenes. This saves a lot of time for architects to navigate to the correct cameras and add them to the render queue.

  • Other advanced features

Linked models

In a typical Revit workflow, there tend to be multiple links that generate the whole BIM model, either to manage file sizes or to follow a certain standard. That's why Revit developed Link feature, and D5 supports it as well.

To separate links, turn on and off the ones you don't need or the ones we are not working on to minimize the load on GPU.

If you want to edit each file separately&freely in Revit, and sync them back to D5 with correct coordination system, toggle on Use Survey Point option.

Consistent Colors Visual Style

This feature proves useful because many Revit users assign consistent colors for the materials only, and when they send it to Render, those colors will appear in D5.

Turn on Use Consistent Colors, the results in D5 would match the consistent colors visual style in Revit. You can simply sync it as colors and then apply textures in D5 directly.

Surface smoothness

Normally I would set this slider to medium in order to ensure the performance and rendering speed. If you want to make certain elements smoother, simply isolate them and export with an increased smoothness.

Live sync being said, what else makes D5 Render the best rendering engine for Revit?

D5 Asset Library: 1500 materials and 8000 models ready to use now

Collaborating with worldwide asset manufacturers, D5 provides detailed PBR materials, furniture, buildings, particles and vegetation, bringing tremendous convenience to interior designers and architects.

It also supports sharing local libraries and network drives to speed up teamwork. With this feature and Merge Projects widget, designers' studio/companies will see a boost in efficiency and results.

Once your modeling work in Revit is finished, open D5 and there's no need to turn to another software.

Cutting-edge Renderer : quality, speed, ease of use

Things that people love about their favorite renderer would be: speed, quality and ease of use. Luckily, D5 have them all. To ensure the best possilbe outcome of lights, D5 developed its own global illumination system, D5 GI. You can learn more about it here.

Not only is the Revit to D5 workflow enjoyable, the rendering process in D5 is also easy, quick and efficient. What you see is what you get. Trust me, you will love what D5 has to offer from downloading to output.

If you are a designer or architect, D5 is worth trying. If you are a Revit user, definitely check out what we have prepared for you by downloading NOW.
